I talked to God Today - Week One

Some of us when they consider the idea of prayer, we lessen the gift of prayer to the simple act of talking to God. Last week we really go into the heart of the matter, that maybe prayer isn't so much for us to get our prayer requests out, but to listen just as much as talk.

Louie Giglio of Passion Ministries gave this definition of Prayer: Constant communion with God

I don't know about you but when I think of communion I don't think about prayer, but that more for next week.

Prayer is more about a mindset and a heart dedicated to seeking God's will for His life more than His will for ours.

Prayer is something that's happening all the time and God doesn't necessarily hanging on to ever word you say, He's hanging to what's going on inside your heart ALL THE TIME. He's crazy about you and knows what you need before you ask it, so maybe that special time is meant for something more. In fact maybe its not meant to just happen at certain times during the day. Maybe it's more than conversation. In stead prayer is a gift for relationship that includes life, not just conversation.

So let's take a quick look at the model prayer. Jesus says in Matthew 6:5 "When you pray.." Christ doesn't think we'll need convincing to pray... it's just assumed. "When you pray do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men truly I say to you, they have their reward in full."

In other words, it's not about others knowing about your prayer life, and getting recognition is the only reward.

v 6 "By you, when you pray, go into your inner room [closet] close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret and your Father who see what is done in secret will reward you."

God cares so much more for His private time with you, than anything else.

But we'll save this section for next week, for now let's take a look at Jesus model prayer starting Verse 9 through 13.

"Pray then in this way: Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your Kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

Instead of giving you a verse by verse breakdown I'm simply going to breakdown the prayer the same that Pastor Giglio did in his series by the same name.

Recognize the heart of how Jesus is showing us prayer.

You get all the way down to verse 9 before it ever mentions us.

It's starts

- It's starts with us looking up

- seeing who He is

- remembering what He’s about

- positioning ourselves for His plan

- Lord, it’s about your kingdom and your will.

It's hard to put everything together for a blog, but catch this heart of the topic. Is prayer for you? Well it's not really that simple. It's like asking if Marriage is for the Husband or the wife? It's for both to have a relationship together. And prayer is the amazing vehicle of relationship between you and the creator of the stars. Talk to God, listen to God, but most of all fall in love with Him as he has fallen in love with you.

I put the Lord's pray in my own words, it's not the best I've ever seen, but maybe it will help.

"O Daddy, you are so much more than I can fathom, O the wonder of your name. Make my home, my life, my love, your home, your life, your loves right here in my world like it is in yours. Give me what I need to survive and protect me even when I don't want to be protected. For everything is yours and you make everything beautiful."
